Pure water cleaning uses highly purified water, usually delivered through a water-fed pole and soft brush, to clean exterior windows and other suitable surfaces. It is a practical option for homes and businesses across Western Sydney, particularly where upper-storey glass is difficult to reach. But does it replace washing? It can replace traditional detergent-and-squeegee washing for many exterior windows, but it does not replace every type of cleaning.

Ordinary tap water contains dissolved minerals. When droplets evaporate on glass, those minerals can leave visible spots. Pure water cleaning systems remove most dissolved minerals through reverse osmosis, deionisation, or a combination of both.
The cleaner uses a suitable brush to loosen dirt, then rinses the glass thoroughly with purified water. Because the rinse water contains very little dissolved mineral content, clean windows can usually air-dry without mineral spotting or squeegeeing.
The brush and thorough rinsing do the cleaning work. Purified water is not a disinfectant, and it does not automatically dissolve every stain or contaminant.
Does Pure Water Replace Traditional Window Washing?
For routine exterior window cleaning, often yes. A well-maintained system and correct technique can remove everyday dust, loose grime and pollen without detergent. However, the right method depends on the condition of the glass, access and the type of contamination.
When Pure Water Works Well
- Routine maintenance of exterior glass with ordinary dust and dirt.
- Suitable upper-storey windows that can be safely reached using a water-fed pole from the ground.
- Cleaning compatible window frames alongside the glass, helping prevent dirty runoff.
- Shopfronts and residential windows where outdoor rinse water can be managed safely.
When Additional Washing or Treatment Is Needed
Grease, adhesive residue, paint, cement splashes and stubborn insect deposits may need targeted treatment before the final rinse. Hard-water staining and etched glass also require assessment: pure water prevents new mineral deposits from the rinse water, but it does not necessarily remove existing mineral damage.
Interior windows generally need a controlled, low-water method, such as traditional washing and squeegeeing, to protect flooring and furnishings. Pressure washing, mould treatment and sanitising are separate tasks rather than substitutes for pure water window cleaning.

Practical Considerations for Western Sydney Properties
Western Sydney properties can collect windblown dust, pollen and traffic-related grime. Windows near busy roads or building works may need more frequent maintenance than sheltered windows. Base your cleaning schedule on visible buildup and exposure rather than a fixed rule.
On hot days, glass can dry quickly, making careful rinsing especially important. Working on shaded elevations or during cooler parts of the day can help. Frames, seals and drainage also need attention: trapped dirt can run onto freshly cleaned glass, while deteriorated seals may allow water inside.
Water-fed poles can reduce ladder use, but they do not eliminate safety risks. Overhead powerlines, pedestrians, uneven ground and equipment reach must still be assessed. Any applicable Sydney Water restrictions and runoff requirements should also be checked before work begins.
What Should You Ask Before Booking?
- Is my glass suitable? Mention damaged seals, coatings, tinting or manufacturer-specific care instructions.
- What is included? Confirm whether frames, sills, screens and tracks are part of the quote.
- How is water quality checked? A total dissolved solids meter helps monitor purification performance, although it does not verify overall cleanliness or disinfection.
- Will stubborn marks cost extra? Ask whether stain removal, adhesive removal or restoration requires separate treatment.
The Bottom Line
Pure water cleaning is a genuine washing method, not simply spraying windows and leaving them wet. For suitable exterior glass, it can replace detergent-based cleaning and deliver a clear finish. For stubborn contamination, interior glass or damaged surfaces, a combined or alternative method is often the better choice.
